Sendang Kawidodaren – Bathing Place of the Nymphs

Located on the side of the road soon after Puncak Suroloyo, a trail down the hill leads to Sendang Kawidodaren, a bathing place of the widodaris ("celestial nymphs").

Since the (current) 10th Sultan, there is a tradition where the royal pusakas (sacred heirlooms) — namely the Songsong (umbrella) "Agung Makuto Dewo", and the Tombak (spear) "Manggolo Murti" — of the Kraton of Yogyakarta are bathed annually in a ritual at Sendang Kawidodaren on Satu Suro, the Javanese New Year.
